Network Setup: Configuring Windows Firewall for SQL Server
Solution By default, the Windows Firewall or any other firewall product blocks access to your system from outside sources. An adjustment needs to be made in the firewall settings to allow access to the SQL Server data engine that powers Deacon.

The following instructions are for the Windows Firewall that is part of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Other utilities, such as Norton, Symantec or Kaspersky firewall products will have similar options to allow this access.

Instructions:
1. Go to the Start-Settings-Control Panel-Windows Firewall.
2. Click the Exceptions tab.
3. Click Add Program.
4. Click Browse.
5. Browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlserver.exe
(Note: The "MSSQL.1" folder may be named a similar name, such as "MSSQL.2"
6. Click OK.

Your system will now allow access to the SQL Server data engine.
